The alcove for which this desk was built has glass walls to the floor. It was important for the back to be sightly, as it could be seen from below; and to squander as little of the light coming in as could be. I pierced the modesty panel with a gingko leaf pattern. Square nail-heads stud the drawer fronts and match the iron hardware.
