Peter is a professional cook, who wanted to be able to entertain on the small balcony of his Victorian in San Francisco. The material is African mahogany (mahogany is often used in boat-building, thus a good choice for furniture that is somewhat exposed.) I wanted the effect of plank-and-beam that you see in a garden variety picnic table/ bench combo- but sophisticated.
