This is an interpretation, at about 3/4 scale, of a species of Chinese domestic furniture. I'd had long cut-offs from sequenced planks of bubinga for another project; the white sapwood against the red-pink of the heartwood recalled watermelon flesh and rind. I couldn't throw it away. In fact, I've kept this piece. The little carved pills and all the planed surfaces, without barrier of finish, are grateful to the hand.
